WADA publishes stakeholder feedback received during Third Consultation Phase of 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards Update Process and from Athlete-Centered Consultation

Documents

Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is publishing stakeholder feedback received during the Third Consultation Phase of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards Update Process (2027 Code & IS Update Process), as well as the results of the Athlete-Centered Consultation regarding the same topic.

Stakeholder Feedback on the Second Drafts of the Code and International Standards

During the Third Consultation Phase, stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on the second drafts(1)(2) of the 2027 Code and International Standards. We received more than 1,600 comments(3), all of which can be found here:

WADA wishes to thank all stakeholders who took the time to provide feedback and share insights. It is this collaborative and transparent process that ensures the continued strength of the Code and Standards, and by extension, of the Global Anti-Doping System. As previously indicated, while the drafting teams carefully consider and review all comments, it cannot be guaranteed that each individual stakeholder comment is addressed or that a given suggestion will be included in the amended and updated versions of the 2027 Code and International Standards.

Feedback from Athlete-Centered Consultation

On 17 April 2025, WADA, in collaboration with its Athlete Council, launched an Athlete-Centered Consultation and called on all athletes and athlete commissions to participate by sharing feedback on some of the proposed changes to the Code and International Standards (or, in some cases, on current issues affecting athletes). More than 600 athletes/athlete commissions from 60+ countries and 70+ sports/sport disciplines responded to the consultation, the results of which can be found here.

WADA wishes to thank all athletes who engaged with the Consultation for taking the time to share their insights and experiences. This unique input will help us ensure that we continue to build a fair and harmonized anti-doping program for all athletes; one that better reflects athletes’ realities and needs.

About the 2027 Code & IS Update Process

The 2027 Code & IS Update Process is part of WADA’s commitment to facilitate periodic collaborative review processes to ensure the documents remain fit for purpose. The two-year, multi-phase update process is summarized in the 2027 Code & IS Update Process – Timelines & Key Phases document.

About the 2027 Code & IS Update Drafting Team Working Groups

Nine different drafting teams—one for the Code and each International Standard—have been formally constituted as Working Groups and are composed of internal members from WADA management and external experts from various Code Signatories and stakeholder organizations. For more information regarding the 2027 Code & IS Update Process or the Drafting Team Working Groups, we invite you to refer to the Code Review webpage

Notes:

(1) At this stage, all documents related to the 2027 Code and IS Update Process (drafts, redline documents, summaries of major changes, and comments) are only available in English;

(2) A revised version of the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories entered into effect on 1 April 2024 and therefore only became the subject of revision during the Second Draft Phase.

(3) WADA reserves the right to remove any and all comments that constitute hateful speech or are defamatory, abusive, offensive, threatening in nature or are otherwise illegal.

(4) The ISDP is currently known as the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information (ISPPPI), which first came into effect in June 2009. It was subsequently amended three times. With this fifth revised version, it is proposed to rename this Standard as the International Standard for Data Protection.
