WADA welcomes decision of Swiss court on Alex Schwazer case

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) welcomes today’s decision by the Swiss Federal Tribunal rejecting a petition by Italian race walker, Alex Schwazer, to suspend a July 2016 ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport that banned the athlete for eight years for taking synthetic testosterone, a prohibited substance. Mr. Schwazer was seeking to suspend this CAS award so he could compete in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In light of questions that WADA received from the media and other stakeholders concerning this case, the Agency issued a detailed
statement on 22 April 2021, re-confirming its position on this matter.
