The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to publish Professional Standards and Role Descriptors for practitioners working in the following anti-doping contexts:

These new Standards were endorsed by the Agency’s Education Committee and welcomed by its Executive Committee at the December 2024 meeting.

A key component of WADA’s Global Learning and Development (GLDF) initiative, the Professional Standards and Role Descriptors aim to set competency levels for and enhance the knowledge and skills of practitioners working in the global anti-doping workforce. These three new Standards are the latest addition to the robust catalogue of Professional Standards, which includes:

All Professional Standards, Role Descriptors, and corresponding training programs were developed by a Technical Working Group comprised of professionals across organizations and regions and in collaboration with stakeholders. The Standards, which are all available in English, French, and Spanish, describe:

  • the main functions for a given anti-doping role;
  • the expected standard of competence using performance criteria; and
  • the knowledge and skills required to perform the role.

WADA encourages Anti-Doping Organizations and other stakeholders to use the Standards to develop their practitioners and the contingent workforce who support delivery of their anti-doping programs. The Standards can also be used to evaluate professional competencies and support development through the identification of opportunities for improvement.

These resources have all been created as part of the GLDF4CleanSport project, which is funded by Erasmus+ and represents the current phase of WADA’s GLDF initiative.
