WADA Executive Committee to meet in Shanghai on 22 September

The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will meet in Shanghai, China, on 22 September 2023. ExCo members, the majority of whom will attend in person and others virtually, will be updated on WADA’s progress on key priorities, take a number of decisions and make certain recommendations to the Agency’s Foundation Board (Board) for its next meeting in November. 

Among the items on the agenda for the ExCo are: 

  • Approval of the 2024 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods; 

  • Decisions regarding ongoing World Anti-Doping Code compliance cases; 

  • An update regarding the reinstatement conditions imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in its award related to the case between WADA and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency; 

  • A briefing regarding the update process for the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards that will commence later this month; 

  • Approval of the Risk and Audit Committee members for inaugural terms; 

  • Approval of scientific research project grants for 2023;  

  • Two technical scientific matters concerning Laboratories; and 

  • Consideration of the Agency’s draft budget for 2024 for recommendation to the Board in November.  

In addition to the ExCo meeting agenda, a half-day will be dedicated to engaging members in initial discussions concerning development of the next iteration of WADA’s Strategic Plan (2025-2029).   

WADA is composed of a 42-member Foundation Board, which is the Agency’s highest policy-making body, and the 16-person ExCo, which is delegated by the Board to manage the running of the Agency, including the performance of activities and the administration of assets. The ExCo is composed of five representatives from the Sport Movement, five representatives from Governments of the world, the independent Chair of WADA’s Athlete Council and five other independent members, including WADA’s President and Vice-President.
