Project description

Code: DBS20ABP03NN

In summary, we propose to analyze DBS cards to evaluate the potential of surrogate markers for altered erythropoiesis, namely ALAS2 L and LC, CA1, and CD71, FECH and Band3, after both blood withdrawal (450 mL) and reinfusion (130 mL) as well as rHuEPO treatment (20 IU/kg). Importantly, the required samples already exist in our biobanks. We propose establishing a collaboration with Dr. Holly Cox and Dr. Daniel Eichner at the WADA-accredited laboratory SMRTL in Utah, US, and Dr. Nicolas Leuenberger at the Lausanne laboratory, Switzerland. Both collaborators have extensive knowledge in extracting DBS samples14,15,17,19,22,27-30. This study proposal provide a unique opportunity to investigate two large-scale human trials using a likely real-word doping scenarios and a state-of-the-art laboratory compliant with the International Standard for Laboratories determined by WADA31.
