WADA welcomes World Aquatics decision to adopt Bylaw aimed at protecting clean sport

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) welcomes the World Aquatics decision to implement a Bylaw which states that individuals who support, endorse or participate in sporting events that embrace the use of prohibited substances or methods will be ineligible to hold positions with World Aquatics, or to participate in any World Aquatics competitions, events, or other activities.
WADA President Witold Bańka said: “WADA applauds the initiative shown by World Aquatics to take a firm stand against those who are actively jeopardizing the health of athletes and the integrity of clean sport. It sends a firm message that World Aquatics will not be deterred, and that those who choose to partake in experimental and dangerous sideshows will no longer be welcome to participate in credible competition. WADA calls on all its clean sport partners, including athletes, to join us in condemning those who put greed and ego before the well-being of athletes and the values of fair competition.”
WADA warns athletes and support personnel who wish to participate in sport regulated by the World Anti-Doping Code that if they were to take part in events which actively promote doping, they would risk committing anti-doping rule violations under the Code.
