WADA publishes revised Technical Document for Laboratory Documentation Package

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published a revised version of the 2023 Technical Document (TD) for Laboratory Documentation Package (TD2023LDOC). The revised TD was approved during WADA’s Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting on 22 September 2023 and will come into effect on 1 October 2023(1).

This TD and its annexes outline the requirements for the production of Laboratory Documentation Packages by Laboratories and ABP Laboratories, as applicable. It includes instructions for producing Laboratory Documentation Packages by Laboratories for analytical results obtained by the application of qualitative Test Methods (applied to Non-Threshold Substances) and quantitative Test Methods.

In addition, this TD includes instructions for producing Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) Laboratory Documentation Packages and ABP Laboratory Certificates of Analysis.

Under the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL), WADA’s TDs are issued to provide direction to WADA-accredited Laboratories, WADA-approved Laboratories for the Athlete Biological Passport and other stakeholders on specific technical or procedural issues. As part of WADA’s mandate to enhance anti-doping activities under the World Anti-Doping Code, TDs undergo periodic revisions to reflect scientific and technological advances in the performance of anti-doping analyses and the reporting of analytical results. They are refined and revised in consultation with WADA stakeholders.

All WADA TDs are available and indexed on WADA’s website.

Should you have any questions regarding the above TD, we invite you to contact WADA’s Science Department at: science@wada-ama.org

(1) A version of the TD was approved by the ExCo in May 2023; however, during the process of preparing for its public release and implementation, an anomaly was identified and therefore an updated version was submitted to the September ExCo for new approval.
