WADA publishes membership of Standing Committees for 2022

Standing Committees 2022

Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) publishes the membership of its five Standing Committees for 2022, which were approved by the Agency’s Executive Committee (ExCo) at its 24 November 2021 meeting.

In accordance with WADA’s Statutes concerning Standing Committee composition and rotation, on an annual basis, the Agency is required to announce its call for nominations six months prior to when the decision will be taken by the ExCo. Accordingly, in May 2021, WADA invited candidates to apply, by outlining their experience and expertise; and, providing a recommendation letter from one of the Agency’s Foundation Board (Board) members or a recognized stakeholder group. The 2022 vacancy on the Compliance Review Committee (CRC) was for an independent member, and therefore a recommendation letter was not required. The Nominations Committee was responsible for assessing the candidates for this particular vacancy and making its recommendation to the Executive Committee. The selection of members for the four other Standing Committees is undertaken with consideration across all the Committees to ensure fair distribution of membership between public authority and sport representatives and regional divisions, while also considering gender and cultural balance where possible.

WADA President Witold Bańka said: “WADA’s Standing Committee members are world-class experts who graciously volunteer their time to help the Agency achieve its collaborative worldwide mission for doping-free sport. These Committee members, who play a key advisory role in policy and priority development for the Agency, are selected following a thorough assessment process to ensure the very best members for these important roles. In addition to this, and as part of WADA’s goals with regards to diversity, equity and inclusion, we are very pleased that half (27 out of 54) of the appointed members are women; and that, 31 countries from the five continents are represented within the 2022 Committees.”

The terms of reference (TOR) for the five Committees are linked below:

  1. Athlete Committee [TOR]
  2. Compliance Review Committee [TOR]
  3. Education Committee [TOR]
  4. Finance and Administration Committee [TOR]
  5. Health, Medical and Research Committee [TOR]

During WADA’s 25 November Board meeting, proposals were approved as part of the Agency’s ongoing governance review that will have an impact on WADA’s Athlete Committee structure and the management of its composition in the coming years. It is foreseen that 2022 will be a transition year as work is undertaken to implement these changes as quickly as is practicable.
