WADA cancels 2021 Annual Symposium and announces next Symposium on 23-24 March 2022

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces today the cancellation of its postponed 2021 Annual Symposium that was initially to be held in March 2021 at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, and had been postponed to be an in-person or hybrid (in-person/virtual) event on 19-20 October 2021.

WADA took this decision in order to focus on the 2022 edition of the Symposium, which the Agency will hold at the same venue in Lausanne on 23-24 March 2022.

WADA Director General, Olivier Niggli, said: “Looking at the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, we believe restrictions will be significantly less in early 2022. Holding an edition of our annual Symposium in October 2021 and another one just a few months later would have made little sense. By focusing on March 2022, we anticipate being able to welcome a large number of our stakeholder community onsite, while preparing to offer a virtual solution for those members of the community that may not be able to attend in person.”

WADA’s Annual Symposium, which is traditionally the biggest gathering on the anti-doping calendar, is designed for anti-doping practitioners from International Federations, National and Regional Anti-Doping Organizations and Major Event Organizations, Athletes and Athlete representatives, Governments, WADA-accredited laboratories and Athlete Passport Management Units, as well as other stakeholders such as service providers, researchers and the media – all that are integral to clean sport.
