Benjamin Cohen's Biography

Effective 1 November 2016, Benjamin Cohen assumes the role of Director, European Regional Office and International Federations Relations. He will be located at WADA’s Lausanne, Switzerland office.

Prior to assuming his role with WADA, Benjamin was the Head of Governance and Legal Affairs for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 2009. Prior to FIBA, Benjamin held various roles with the United Nations Office of Sport for Development and Peace in New York and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in Nyon, Switzerland. He also regularly acts as expert in sports legal and governance matters for the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

Benjamin is a member of various Commissions, Task Forces and Expert Groups with the IOC; the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).  He is also President of the Legal Commission for the International League against Racism (LICRA).

Mr. Cohen teaches sports law, dispute resolution and sports governance in various universities worldwide. Mr. Cohen has a Bachelor and Masters of Law from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland and the University of Durham, England.  Benjamin also holds a Masters of Advanced Studies in Sports Administration and Technology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), University of Geneva & Lausanne. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Law on International Sports Governance at the University of Zurich, in Switzerland.
