The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce that its funding agreement with the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) has been renewed for another year, in which JADA, with support from the Japanese Government, will provide additional funding of up to JPY 27,562,431 (approximately USD 174,000) to support WADA’s Global Learning and Development Framework (GLDF) and Anti-Doping Organization capacity and capability development across Asia/ Oceania. This amount is additional to the Government of Japan’s annual contribution to WADA of more than USD 1.5 million.

WADA President, Witold Bańka, said: “WADA is grateful for the ongoing support of our Japanese partners. The long-standing funding agreement will continue to have a tangible impact on the development of Anti-Doping Organizations across Asia and Oceania by ensuring that WADA can continue to organize in-person Global Learning and Development Framework sessions and carry out other important initiatives. The GLDF has resulted in improvements in the quality of anti-doping programs in the region, which reinforces the Japanese Government’s commitment to the protection of clean sport regionally and worldwide.”

Since the foundation of WADA, JADA and the Japanese Government have contributed approximately USD 2.6 million of additional financial support to the Agency’s efforts across the region. This year’s contribution will once again support organization of in-person GLDF training; as well as initiatives around implementation of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and development of National and Regional Anti-Doping Organizations in the region. In addition, the funding will support the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), through WADA’s Major Event Anti-Doping Legacy (MEAL) Program at the Asian Para Games in October 2026.

JADA Chair, Professor Takao Akama, said: “JADA is pleased to extend its agreement with WADA and looks forward to continued collaboration in developing anti-doping expertise of Asia. JADA extends its gratitude to the Japanese Government for once again providing the funds for this important GLDF project. The development of anti-doping practitioners and national and regional organizations is critical to ensuring a level playing field for athletes around the world. Working closely with WADA, JADA takes pride in taking on a leading role in anti-doping development in Asia.”

WADA’s core funding is sourced from the Olympic Movement and Governments of the world. Governments’ annual contributions are calculated through a regional split, which was agreed upon by the public authorities shortly after the creation of WADA in 1999. The Olympic Movement matches Governments’ contributions up to 50% of WADA’s annual budget. These regular annual contributions are complemented by additional contributions from WADA’s stakeholders and by projects or partnerships with other organizations.
