The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce two new additions to its Anti-Doping Education and Learning (ADEL) platform designed to enable Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) to educate youth athletes on the importance of clean sport:

ADEL for Youth Athletes course

Tailored for athletes aged 11-15 who are involved in sport through school or a club, this new course introduces the concept of clean sport and equips learners with the skills to overcome challenging moments in their sport journey. Each module features members of WADA’s Athlete Council sharing their personal experiences with competing clean and encouraging athletes to help create a fair and positive sporting environment for everyone.

WADA’s Director of Education, Amanda Hudson, said: “It has been WADA’s ambition since the publication of the first International Standard for Education to develop content that would help ADOs expand the reach of their education programs, particularly for ADOs that do not have the capacity to develop their own content. With the addition of this youth course, WADA’s education programs now cover all stages of the athlete pathway, enabling ADOs to educate athletes from the playground to the podium.”

Downloadable resources

Developed by a sub-group of WADA’s Education Committee, we have released four downloadable resources designed for youth and talented-level athletes, their parents, and athlete support personnel. These new resources cover the following essential topics:

  • testing procedures,
  • the Prohibited List,
  • supplements, and
  • the importance of speaking up in challenging situations.

WADA’s Education Committee Chair, Kady Kanouté Tounkara, said: “These new downloadable resources mark a significant step towards improving accessibility to clean sport education. Making content available offline embraces an inclusive approach that enables athletes, their parents, and their support personnel that may not have full-time internet access to stay informed and compliant. Downloadable on a computer or mobile phone, these free resources make it possible to learn anytime and anywhere, regardless of internet connection.”

Additional Information

The new course and downloadable resources are currently available in English, French, and Spanish. ADOs interested in translating the course or resources can submit a request via the ADEL Helpdesk

Please note: athletes under the age of 16 must use a parent or guardian’s email address to create an account on ADEL.
