WADA publishes 2027 Model Rules for International Federations, Major Event Organizations and National Anti-Doping Organizations
Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to publish the 2027 Model Rules for Code Signatories (Model Rules). The Model Rules aim to support National Anti-Doping Organizations, International Federations, and Major Event Organizations in drafting their new anti-doping rules in line with the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code (Code), which was approved by the Agency’s Foundation Board on 5 December 2025 and will enter into force on 1 January 2027. The 2027 Code and International Standards will be published shortly.
As Signatories are responsible for assessing and ensuring that their legal frameworks are Code-compliant by 1 January 2027, WADA encourages Signatories to:
- Assess their internal legal frameworks, determining which anti-doping rules and (where applicable) other legal instrument(s) must be amended or drafted to ensure compliance with the 2027 Code; and then
- Draft the relevant anti-doping rules and (where applicable) other legal instrument(s) as soon as possible, keeping in mind that such processes can take considerable time to complete.
Once Signatories have finalized the above-mentioned draft anti-doping rules and (where applicable) other legal instrument(s), WADA kindly requests that, prior to the beginning of the adoption procedure, these drafts be sent to compliance@wada-ama.org. This will allow WADA to ensure that they are in line with the 2027 Code or provide feedback if they are not1. Note: drafts must be in English or French and in Microsoft Word format.
To ensure compliance with the 2027 Code, WADA strongly recommends that Signatories use the Model Rules in full (i.e., without substantive changes) to draft a new set of anti-doping rules, as opposed to amending or updating existing anti-doping rules.
It should be noted that the French version of the Model Rules will be published by WADA in the coming months. Additionally, the Agency will soon provide further information regarding its 2027 Code Implementation Support Program.
For further assistance, Signatories are encouraged to contact their WADA Regional Office.
Note:
(1) In keeping with its ISO-certified compliance monitoring program, WADA’s Compliance Unit will make its best effort to reply to Signatories within three weeks from the day of receipt of the relevant documents.
