WADA mourns the passing of former Foundation Board and Executive Committee member Gian-Franco Kasper

It is with great sadness that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) notes the passing of long-standing servant to clean sport, Gian-Franco Kasper from Switzerland, who has died at the age of 77. He represented the sports movement on WADA’s Executive Committee (ExCo) and Foundation Board (Board) from 2003 to 2016 and recently retired from the presidency of the International Ski Federation (FIS) after nearly half a century of dedicated service to his beloved skiing
WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said: “Everyone at WADA is saddened to hear of the death of Gian-Franco. In his time on the WADA Board and ExCo, he helped to strengthen and grow the role played by WADA across all sports around the world. He always enjoyed his visits to the WADA Headquarters in Montreal, not just because it was an opportunity to advance the cause of clean sport, but also because it allowed him to revisit the city where he used to live when he set up a Swiss tourism office there in 1974.
“Members of all WADA committees, as well as the management and staff, are grateful for his selfless service to sport and we wish to pass our sincere condolences to the Kasper family and our colleagues at the International Ski Federation at this difficult time.”
