WADA hosts ninth annual Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network meeting in Lausanne

October 2025 ADIIN Meeting in Lausanne

This week, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) hosted the ninth annual Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network (ADIIN) Expert Group session in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This year’s session, which ran from 8 to 9 October 2025, welcomed nearly 25 participants from WADA Intelligence and Investigations (I&I), National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs), International Federations (IFs) and the International Testing Agency (ITA) to discuss ongoing investigations and share their experiences.

WADA Head of Investigations, Mathieu Holz, said: “The ninth session in Lausanne follows in the footsteps of the previous editions by providing practitioners from various Anti-Doping Organizations and the International Testing Agency a forum to meet and discuss a number of important I&I topics. Expert-led group discussions explored potential opportunities, such as artificial intelligence and anti-doping investigations, as well as current challenges, including improving access to anti-doping intelligence, identifying emerging trends, and defining boundaries between interviews and self-incrimination.”

WADA Director, Intelligence and Investigations, Günter Younger, said: “Over the past nine years, the Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network Expert Group has been instrumental in guiding the evolution of Intelligence and Investigations within the anti-doping community. Regular engagement among our experts is key to identifying new ways of working and staying ahead of emerging challenges. The quality of their work shows that I&I continues to grow stronger, and with the new International Standards for Intelligence and Investigations (ISII), I&I will continue to stand as a solid pillar of the global anti-doping system.”

During the sessions, members identified and shared best practices while working collaboratively to strengthen their approach in addressing these critical issues. To complement these discussions, WADA Associate Director, Results Management and Legal, Cyril Troussard, walked the group through substantial assistance cases, highlighting errors to avoid in such cases. Mr. Younger also provided an update on the upcoming ISII, the new mandatory International Standard developed in consultation with Signatories, public authorities, athletes and other relevant stakeholders that will be adopted during the Sixth World Conference on Doping in Sport in Busan and enter into force on 1 January 2027. The new Standard has come together through substantial work by the drafting team, which included members of the Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network steering committee.

The ADIIN Expert Group also heard from several experts representing the Lausanne Anti-Doping Laboratory (forensics and anti-doping), the Agence Française de Lutte contre le Dopage (investigating a high-profile genetics case) and WADA I&I. In addition, guests from the United States Anti-Doping Agency, Anti-Doping Norway, Doping Autoriteit Netherlands, Anti-Doping Sweden and the ITA, who have recently taken on active roles in I&I, introduced themselves and shared insights from their work with the group.

About ADIIN

In 2017, to further harmonize and strengthen the investigation of doping in sport worldwide, WADA I&I started building ADIIN to serve as a global resource to assist Anti-Doping Organizations in conducting investigations, and to identify and promote best-practice investigative standards.
