WADA expands intelligence gathering capability through creation of dedicated Intelligence Unit

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce that its independent Intelligence and Investigations Department (I&I) is expanding its intelligence gathering capability through the creation of a dedicated Intelligence Unit.
In support of WADA’s 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, the new Intelligence Unit will bolster the anti-doping intelligence landscape by facilitating the following:
- Enhanced decision making with data-driven insight
- Proactive risk identification and mitigation
- Strategic intelligence gathering and distribution
In addition to the above, the Intelligence Unit has also absorbed the role of the former Confidential Information Unit. It is responsible for managing Speak Up, a secure and confidential platform through which people can raise concerns about doping; managing confidential sources, including the Confidential Source Policy and the Guidelines for Human Source Management; and, further developing the Sport Human Intelligence Network.

Enhanced decision making with data-driven insight
The Intelligence Unit will empower leadership and operational teams with insights derived from actionable intelligence, enhanced analysis, and cutting-edge analytics, enabling smarter, faster, and more confident decision making to address systemic risks.
Corresponding to the Grow Impact strategic priority, this actions the key initiative to leverage anti-doping data to detect patterns of problem areas and solve issues in a targeted way.
Proactive risk identification and mitigation
By continuously monitoring emerging threats and doping trends, the Intelligence Unit will assist WADA and the anti-doping ecosystem to stay ahead of risks, turning potential challenges into strategic opportunities.
Corresponding to the Perform strategic priority, this delivers on the key initiative to develop a process that helps us anticipate and mitigate high risks.
Strategic intelligence gathering and distribution
Through streamlined intelligence gathering, the Intelligence Unit will foster better information sharing, which will reduce duplication of effort and ensure that WADA and its stakeholders are aligned on strategic I&I objectives.
Corresponding with the Collaborate and Unite strategic priority, this supports the key initiative to deliver targeted communications aimed at informing and engaging key stakeholders on salient matters.
