Reminder to register for WADA’s 2023 Therapeutic Use Exemption Symposium in May
Registration deadline is 19 May
Further to our communication of 20 December 2022, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) would like to remind stakeholders to register for its 2023 Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Symposium, which will run from 31 May to 2 June 2023 in Incheon, South Korea.
This is WADA’s fifth TUE Symposium, which will graciously be co-hosted by the Korea Anti-Doping Agency (KADA). The Symposium will convene TUE Committee members, sport and other physicians and managers who work on TUEs from National Anti-Doping Organizations, International Federations and Major Event Organizations from around the globe, to discuss medical conditions and the TUE process.
The primary objective of the TUE Symposium is to harmonize the approach to TUEs, which ensures that athletes with legitimate medical conditions may participate in sport despite their need for a medication or treatment that may otherwise be prohibited in sport under the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. The Symposium will include interactive discussions on medical cases, medico-legal issues and retroactive TUEs. Participants will also discuss challenges regarding global harmonization of practices, with the goal of ensuring that fairness is maintained and that athletes are afforded similar opportunities considering their sport, geographical location or specific medical issues. To maximize stakeholder interaction, booths will be set up so that participants can chat with WADA TUE Expert Advisory Group members, WADA medical staff and other specialists about specific medical conditions and the TUE process.
Additionally, we would like to share that KADA will be holding its annual Anti-Doping Seminar in Asia on 31 May, with the opening event of the TUE symposium to follow in the evening, providing greater opportunity for medical officials from the Asia region to participate in both Symposia.
We invite stakeholders to contact WADA Medical at firstname.lastname@example.org to submit any interesting short cases for a session named “Quick Dives: Pearls from around the world.” Those who submit cases may in turn be selected to present their case and convey one key takeaway to their fellow attendees in a 2- to 3-minute presentation.
Should you wish to register for the TUE Symposium, we invite you to do so on the Symposium website by 19 May 2023. The website contains all relevant information regarding the event, including the program.
Please take note that, following some requests from the previous symposium, an application has been made to the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for Continuing Medical Education Accreditation of this event.
Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Kimberley Chinnarassen, Assistant, Science and Medicine at email@example.com and/or Ms. Anaïs Lefevre, WADA’s Events Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WADA and KADA look forward to welcoming many of you in Incheon in May.
