Save the date: WADA 2020 Annual Symposium and Athlete Session

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) kindly asks its stakeholders to ‘save the date’ for the Agency’s 2020 Annual Symposium that will be held on Tuesday, 17 March and Wednesday, 18 March 2020 at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The WADA Symposium, which is the main event on the annual global anti-doping calendar, is a unique and practical event that offers anti-doping stakeholders the opportunity to gather, interact and learn from one another. The Symposium is designed for anti-doping practitioners from International Federations, National and Regional Anti-Doping Organizations and Major Event Organizers, representatives from Governments, Athlete Commissions, WADA-accredited laboratories and Athlete Passport Management Units, as well as other stakeholders such as the media, researchers and service providers that are integral to clean sport.

The 2020 Symposium will, among other matters, explore the new elements of the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards, which are expected to be approved at the
Fifth World Conference on Doping in Sport to be held in November 2019. As was the case for the 2019 Symposium, the 2020 edition will be carried out over two days versus three, which was requested by the majority of respondents to WADA’s post-2019 Symposium survey.

Following the success of the first ever dedicated Athlete Session during the 2019 Symposium, the Agency is pleased to announce that, on Thursday 19 March, it will once again dedicate a full day to an Athlete Session. The Session, exclusively for the athlete community, will be held at the same venue after the Symposium to enable athletes to attend all sessions of the Symposium. With former elite athletes Witold Banka and Yang Yang set to assume the roles of WADA President and Vice-President respectively from 1 January 2020, there has never been a more opportune moment for athletes to engage in, and positively influence, the pursuit for Clean Sport.

More details regarding the 2020 Symposium and Athlete Session, including draft agendas and logistical information, will be provided when registration opens during the fourth quarter of 2019.

Please be sure to save the date.
