An anti-doping legal seminar in Colombia earlier this month has resulted in a group of South American countries agreeing to submit a recommendation to the Code Review Process.
The Oct. 3-4 seminar in Bogota was organized by WADA’s Latin America Regional Office in conjunction with the Colombian Ministry of Sport (Instituto Colombiano del Deporte, COLDEPORTES).
An important outcome of the meeting was the planned submission from representatives to strengthen the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) through the ongoing Code Review Process.
WADA Latin America Regional Director María José Pesce and WADA’s Chief Legal Manager Julien Sieveking delivered an overview of the Code Review during the seminar, which was attended by two legal representatives from each of the 10 South American National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs).
The second consultation phase of the Code Review finished on Oct. 10, and participants of the seminar will submit their recommendation during the third phase, which commences on Dec. 1 and runs until March 1, 2013.
It was also established during the meeting that the legal representatives of the South American NADOs would establish a forum to discuss regional anti-doping issues and that the 2013 anti-doping legal seminar would be hosted by Paraguay.
