Representatives from all 15 Regional Anti-Doping Organizations (RADOs) gathered in Kuwait City this week for the 2nd RADO Conference, which was hosted by WADA and supported by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
More than 40 delegates were welcomed by Mr. Faisal Al Jazzaf, Chairman and Director General of the Kuwait Public Authority for Youth and Sport, who used the opportunity to emphasis the State of Kuwait’s commitment to the fight against doping in sport.
Delegates at the three-day event (Jan. 24-26)were also addressed by WADA Director General David Howman, who re-emphasized the importance of the role RADOs play in helping harmonize and increase anti-doping on a global scale.
Mr. Howman encouraged participants to use the Conference to develop ways in which to enhance their anti-doping programs, and reiterated WADA’s support for the RADOs.
Tan Sri Dr. Mani Jegathesan, Chairman OCA Medical Committee and Anti-Doping Commission, welcomed participants on behalf of the OCA and its President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.
A minute’s silence was also observed for Mr. Mahmoud Khalifah Ali, former Manager of OCA’s Anti-Doping Department, who passed away in November 2011.
Mr. Ali was instrumental in developing and implementing anti-doping programs throughout Asia and created a close working relationship with all the RADOs.
