WADA Director General addresses Partnership for Clean Competition

WADA Director General David Howman used a keynote speech at the Partnership for Clean Competition (PCC) conference in New York to spell out the challenges faced by the world’s anti-doping community.

Mr. Howman was a guest at the PCC’s ‘The Doping Decision: Deterring Doping in Sport’ which was hosted by the NFL at its headquarters, and staged in conjunction with the United States Olympic Committee, the US Anti-Doping Agency and MLB.

The conference, which was also supported by the NBA, NHL and PGA Tour, was divided into four sessions which addressed why athletes choose to dope, progress made in detection methods, confronting hGH, and the role of intelligence in the fight against doping.

Mr. Howman’s speech, which can be viewed in full here, highlighted the growing influence of the underworld in sport across the world, the difficulties of detecting ‘sophisticated dopers’, and the need for greater investment in anti-doping.
