WADA Reinstates Penang Laboratory for Anti-Doping Analysis

WADA has reinstated the accredited laboratory in Penang, Malaysia, for anti-doping analysis as of June 10. On March 20, this laboratory, which is part of the 34 WADA-accredited laboratories worldwide, was suspended from carrying out anti-doping analysis.

Pursuant to the International Standard for Laboratories, WADA is responsible for accrediting and re-accrediting anti-doping laboratories, as well as ensuring that they maintain the highest quality standards. This monitoring is conducted mainly through WADA’s Proficiency Testing Program and ISO assessment by independent national accreditation bodies. Whenever a laboratory does not meet these quality requirements, as in this case, WADA may suspend the laboratory’s accreditation.

During the suspension period, WADA conducted a site visit of the Penang laboratory and ensured that proper corrective actions had been implemented.
