WADA Director General David Howman made a presentation April 1 in Paris to 83 permanent representatives to UNESCO, the United Nations body for education, science and culture.
Howman’s presentation focused on the history of doping and WADA, and the Agency’s activities. Following the presentation, the representatives had an opportunity to ask questions regarding acceptance and implementation of the Code, the Prohibited List and educational initiatives.
While in Paris, Howman is also meeting with individual representatives, such as those from the Americas, France and Japan, to answer their questions about WADA.
An international convention against doping in sport is being drafted under the auspices of UNESCO. The convention, proposed by member states themselves, will allow countries to formally accept the principles of the Code as well as officially recognize WADA and its roles and responsibilities.
