INTEGRITY + AUTHENTICITY + FAIRNESS
These are the core values of WADA’s Athlete Committee. Led by a chair and 11 committee members, their role is to protect the integrity of clean sport as the leading voice for athletes globally.
Our Athlete Committee, a group of committed current and former Olympic, Paralympic and Continental Games athletes from around the world, represents you within our structure. They meet regularly and are consulted on both technical and organizational matters affecting athletes. They also serve an important role as ambassadors for clean sport (‘Playing True’) and are involved in WADA campaigns world-wide.
Following a decision taken by WADA’s Foundation Board on November 25, 2021, WADA’s Athlete Committee will transform considerably. As a part of ongoing governance reforms, and the way in which athletes are integrated into anti-doping policy development and decision making, the current 12-member committee will become a 20-member Council elected and appointed by athletes:
- five athletes appointed by the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee’s Athletes' Commissions
- eight athletes elected by the Athlete Commissions of International Federations
- seven other athletes, to be selected by an appointments panel made up by a majority of athletes, to fill skills and diversity gaps
As these reforms are implemented, more information about these changes will be published.
