Compliance Audits

As part of its Compliance Monitoring Program, WADA audits National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) and International Federations (IFs).

WADA’s internal Compliance Taskforce selects the Anti-Doping Organization (ADO) to be audited based on criteria detailed in the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories (ISCCS), which are endorsed by the independent Compliance Review Committee (CRC).

The audits are either conducted in person at the ADO’s offices, virtually or remotely through an exchange of information (desk audit).

Independent Observer Program

Launched at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, WADA's Independent Observer (IO) Program has helped enhance athlete and public confidence by randomly monitoring and reporting on all phases of the doping control and results management processes at major sport events.

IO Programs are conducted in an objective, unbiased manner. Recently, an audit-style approach was adopted, which has allowed a team of observers and auditors, under the supervision of WADA, to work alongside the Major Event Organization’s (MEO’s) Doping Control Team every step of the way. MEOs anti-doping programs may be assessed in advance of an event through the CCQ and the IO team will check implementation of any CCQ corrective actions during the event.

After each IO Mission, the team publishes a report covering all aspects of the anti-doping program and suggesting any possible areas for improvement.

IO teams have participated in more than 50 major events including World Championships, Continental Games, the Tour de France, and every edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
