Athlete Committee

Athlete interaction and feedback is a top priority for WADA.

WADA’s Athlete Committee was established in 2005 to represent the views and rights of athletes worldwide, while providing insight and oversight into athletes’ roles and responsibilities as it relates to anti-doping. Its Members have a key role in helping WADA understand the challenges vulnerable athletes face and how WADA can best lead in developing strategies to not only detect, but also deter and prevent it.

Chaired by Russian ice hockey champion, Vyacheslav Fetisov, the committee is comprised world class athlete leaders.Members assist in raising awareness about anti-doping and the promotion of the Play True message, as well as actively liaising with and providing feedback to government, regional and national leaders about anti-doping initiatives.

I'm excited about being part of the WADA Athlete Committee, whose main objective is to keep sport clean. As a current professional athlete, sport provides many unique moments in life. Let us make sure these special moments can be achieved by talented, honourable and clean athletes who make a huge sacrifice to their sport and in turn offer inspiration to all as role models in society.

The best athletes must stand united against doping. As role models for our youth and to show the true values of sports, we must show that doping is not allowed in any way or at any cause.

Always respect yourself and others. Forget about drugs, steroids, growth hormones and all that other rubbish. An athlete’s route to success is littered with sacrifice and there will be many highs and lows along the way.

I am inspired to fight doping in sport because I believe in fair play. Every sportsperson should be able to look across the start line or face her opponent before a match and have the peace of mind that nothing other than natural athletic abilities and mental focus separates her from any competitor.

The gold medal is the ultimate goal of every athlete. We need to fight for this medal in a fair way! It would be very frustrating to be beaten by a cheating athlete after years of hard training. It would destroy our dreams and undermine our courage. Also for unprofessional sports where money does not count, like korfball, one cannot imagine how important these values are.
